Dear Paul,

Wow!  The piano really sounds like a treasure.  I hope you can get your photo for the website.  I love photos, as they bring the family to life.

I don't know if I told you before that that B A Martel's father was from St. Domingue.  The first Martel we can find there is a Captain of the Militia, I assume a French military man overseeing the plantations.  The area they came from is called L'anse au Veau, perhaps not spelled correctly.

And looking at all the Martel genealogy makes my head spin.  Are you aware of another person listed as the son of Amede Martel and Euphemie Saigner in the Father Hebert Books?  His birth, 26 Feb 1841, is recorded at the Opel. Ch., v. 4, p. 167.  If this is really is B.A.,  he had two children before his first marriage to Elise Fontenot, Eugene with Euphemie Saigner and Theophile with Clarisse Lemeles.  I have looked and looked for any sign of Eugene and Euphemie in later records, and I have not been able to find them.  I checked Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org, and the Father Hebert Books.  Just one more mystery in the B. A. Martel saga!

I had no problem opening the file, and I also love the Mac.  I have included the ancestral lineage of Eugenie Martel Boutte Brunet.  Please cross reference with the file you sent. Sorry, I haven't updated the latest with Theophile and Eugene, as I am waiting to gain a little more info.  Please let me know if you spot any mistakes....and  I have no problem with you sharing this on your website. I share all that I have freely, as I feel that it belongs to everyone.  I encourage comments and corrections.  I strive for correct information, and I am not perfect!
If we all work together to solve the genealogy puzzle, perhaps we will find the answers more quickly.

Happy Thanksgiving,
and
God Bless,

Leslie Ellis

Hello Leslie,

Time has a way of slipping by so quickly.
I received this email a few days ago and today I had to remind myself
to go back to read it so I could reply - not because I felt that I
had to - but because I wanted to.

First of all, I wanted to let you know that I appreciate you sending
me copies of those documents with Judge B.A. Martel's signature. It's
good to have something that someone has actually written in his or
her own handwriting ( which is unique to everyone).

I am still adding things to the site as I find time to do so. Would
it be okay to add these documents?
You probably already know that I have already added our email
exchanges and the photo of Judge Martel.
I'm sorry that I didn't ask your permission, and I hope that it's
okay with you.
I felt that our email exchanges were important in shedding light on
our family history; however, if you are not okay with this I will
remove them.

In regards to Eugene Martel, I have run across his name in my family
research.
Also, I have a cousin, my uncle George Martel's son, who is named
Eugene Martel.

Attached are some documents I found on the Internet which pertain to
Judge Martel and some which pertain to Eugene Martel.
These are pdf files which are archived in .zip format.
You should not have any problems unzipping the archive and viewing
the pdfs on your computer since these formats are cross platform.

I have a Mac iBook G4 that my son gave me, and I have used Mac
computers for years. I prefer them to PC's.
Anyway, if you have any problems viewing the documents, just email me.

One more thing - Cousin Rose has the piano that her grandfather
Albert Martel used to play on when he was head of the Martel Family
Band.
I was invited by her to go and see it, but when I got around to
calling her to come over, I could not contact her. She wouldn't
answer the phone (caller ID I guess)

I checked with her daughter Joan, who informed me that she was okay,
and that some times she doesn't feel like being bothered.
So, I don't know what's going on there, but I have been unable to
contact her for a few months now.
I think that it has something to do with me saying that I wanted to
put a picture of the piano on the web site.

If and whenever I get another chance to speak to her, I will try to
convince her that I will not put anything on the web site that she
doesn't want me too.

Good to here from you. Keep in touch.
